Baseball & Gas Drilling

Baseball:

NY Yankees won the World Series.  Again.
Texas missed the playoffs.  Again.

Gas Drilling:

New Yorkers say, "No gas drilling in our watershed."
Texans say, "What's a watershed. Show me the money."

OK, I'm stretching the metaphor, but seriously. Are New Yorkers just smarter than Texans? Is their water better than ours?

I don't think so. Texans have just been hoodwinked by energy companies and corrupt politicos for so long that their natural common sense has gone haywire.  (See, Tommy Lee Jones commercials for Chesapeake) The natural Texas instinct to, smell a rat, has been overwhelmed by misplaced pride.

Maybe New Yorkers are so accustomed to winning at baseball that they aren't so easily intimidated by Texans and Okies bearing Trojan Horses. They are also smart enough to know that 11 million people can't drink natural gas. Protecting their water is a must-win game they can't afford to lose.

The fact is, Texans, New Yorkers, New Mexicans, Pennsylvanians, Ohioans, Louisianans, Arkansans, all of us Shale-dwellers, are being harmed by an industry whose tactics are not unlike foreign terrorists. They are just doing it without airplanes and with the aid of our own government.

I'll be rooting for the Yanks this week as they begin a triple-header push back campaign called:

Watch the Public Service Announcement by veteran video slugger, Josh Fox:

PS: I'm counting on the organizers of this campaign to broaden their push to a STATEWIDE and REGION-WIDE ban on irresponsible gas drilling. They have friends who live downstream whom they must support.
